Kings Bowling Club was formed in 1927 as the Princess Gardens Bowling Club occupying a position on the sea front near to where the Princess Theatre stands today. During the 1930's the Club moved to it's present home in the Kings Gardens from which of course it took its name. Are there many other Clubs that have changed their gender?
Kings Bowling Club currently has a membership of around 100. We are proud to be the home club of England internationals Natalie Melmore (the 2010 Commonwealth Games Singles Gold medalist), Sam Tolchard (the 2008 National Men's Singles Champion) and Sophie Tolchard (U25). Natalie, Sophie and Ruth Rogers were the 2011 Ladies National Triples Champions.
Both ladies and men at Kings play competitive bowling matches in local leagues and competitions but we do enjoy providing friendly matches for touring teams and meeting bowlers from other parts both near and far. Kings Bowling Club is also a host to the English Riviera Bowls Tournamentplayed in June each year.
The club was also the location for the film Blackball, a Mel Smith bowling comedy.
