were represented. The Men were attempting yet another first in completing a 'double' of Double Fours & Top Club

The men's Over 55's Triples season came to a conclusion at the end of season play-off finals at Babbacombe where
Kings were represented by the 'Y' division side who had qualified from their league. Unfortunately, they lost against
a strong Brixham side in the semi-final but went on to beat Bovey Tracey to finish a creditable third.
08/09/2017 played at Taunton Dene
The Men of Kings will now join their Ladies colleagues at Leamington next weekend in the finals of the National Top Club
following their last 16 play-off victory over Clevedon (Somerset). This was a repeat of last season's encounter against the
same opposition and at the same stage of the competition. However, this did not turn out to be a repeat of last year's
comfortable victory. Played at the neutral venue of Taunton Dene in damp and overcast conditions and under floodlights,
both singles players were finding the green difficult to master from the beginning. 2-Wood specialist Louis Ridout, although
not at his usual immaculate best, still had enough ammunition to overcome his opponent 15-10. On the adjoining rink in the
4-Wood singles, Sam Tolchard got off to the worst possible start finding himself trailing 3-11. At this point a change of jack
length had an immediate & drastic effect as Sam then rattled off 17 shots to 2 over the next 20 minutes. However, despite
several desperate & heroic match-saving shots from his opponent at the end, Sam finally crossed the line 21-16 giving Kings
a 2-0 lead. It soon became clear that the outcome of the match would probably hinge on the result of the Triples where
Phil Hackett, Mike Woodbridge & Adrian O'Neill had the better of the earlier exchanges to build up an 11-2 lead after 10 ends.
At this point the opposition rallied to close the gap to 11-8 with 3 ends remaining. However, Kings were able to successfully
manage the final ends to run out 13-10 victors and secure the match. At the point of concession, the pairs( Dave Evans &
Jamie Chestney) were trailing 14-17 whilst the fours (Rob Honeywell, Mark Hopkins, Craig Down & Matt Bass) were 11-15
behind resulting in a 3-2 overall victory.

As the National Championships at Leamington draw to a close, spare a thought for Louis Ridout who
was competing in the 4-Wood singles. Having won his 3 previous matches comfortably, he found
himself matched against his England colleague Jamie Walker from Northants in the quarter-final.
After a sluggish start, he fought back to lead 19-17 and hold a match-winning 2 shots on what proved
to be the last end. However, with his final delivery, his opponent drove at the head removing both
Louis's bowls to hold 4 shots himself to deny Louis victory.
The men's over 55's were crowned 'Y' division champions and advance to the knock-out stages of
the competition later in the month.

The 'A' team probably surrendered any slim hopes they had harboured of winning the Premier Division MDL title
when they lost to Newton Abbot for a second time this season by literally the smallest of margins. Playing with
only 3 players on one rink, Newton had 25% of their total shots on that rink deducted at the end of the match.
Once the mathematics had been applied, the result came out in their favour by ¼ shot and 10 points to 4.

when they lost to Newton Abbot for a second time this season by literally the smallest of margins. Playing with
only 3 players on one rink, Newton had 25% of their total shots on that rink deducted at the end of the match.
Once the mathematics had been applied, the result came out in their favour by ¼ shot and 10 points to 4.

An enforced change saw Mark Hopkins come into the fours replacing the absent Harry Goodwin who was away on Junior International duty. Kings started the match strongly and were never in trouble throughout, running out comfortable 5-0 winners. Wins by Louis Ridout in the 2-Wood singles (19-10), Sam Tolchard in the 4-Wood singles (18-12), Dave Evans & Jamie Chestney in the pairs (24-14), Phil Hackett, Mike Woodbridge & Adrian O'Neill in the triples (23-4) & Rob Honeywell, Mark Hopkins, Craig Down & Matt Bass in the fours (27-9) ensured a place in the area final against either St. Austell or Stanalees from Cornwall.
There was an unusual conclusion to the encounter with Brixham St. Mary in the Foxlands double rink. With the match finishing with the aggregate scores equal, the rules of the competition demanded a countback to the 20th end. This led to a win for Kings and a place in the section final.

Only 5 days after their previous round, Kings men soon found themselves in action again in the National Top Club at Madeira, Exmouth. Enforced changes were required due to the non-availability of Sam Tolchard & Louis Ridout, who were busy winning the British Isles Pairs Championship in Belfast, with Matt Bass switching to the 2-Wood singles & Rob Honeywell to the 4-Wood singles. This however did not prove an obstacle as both singles matches were soon safely in the bag. The match was very quickly conceded with both the pairs (Dave Evans & Jamie Chestney) & triples (Phil Hackett, Mike Woodbridge & Adrian O'Neill) well in front. A 4-1 scoreline guaranteed a home tie in the next round against either Crediton or United Services. (2-W) Matt Bass Won 18-3

It was an extremely busy Saturday at Kings for the Men's team when a combination of player unavailability & fixture congestion demanded that they play both National Double Fours & Top Club ties on the same day. In the afternoon, Topsham were the visitors in the 2 x 4's. Rink scores of 24-11 in favour of Phil Hackett, Adrian O'Neill, Harry Goodwin & Sam Tolchard against Kevin Phillips alongside 16-11 by the rink of Rob Honeywell, Matt Bass, Louis Ridout & Jamie Chestney against Lee Phillips ensured a 40-22 scoreline and a safe passage into the next round.
With barely enough time to take breath, opponents Newton Abbot arrived for their Top Club clash. This represented a rerun of the tie two seasons ago when the visitors won 3-2, which remains the last time that Kings were beaten in this competition. However there was no repeat of that result on this occasion as Kings turned in an emphatic performance to win comprehensively 5-0. This was achieved by victories in 2-Wood Singles (Louis Ridout), 4-Wood Singles (Sam Tolchard 21-5), Pairs (Dave Evans & Jamie Chestney 25-13), Triples (Phil Hackett, Mike Woodbridge & Adrian O'Neill 18-12) and Fours (Rob Honeywell, Alan Hirst, Craig Down & Harry Goodwin 23-7).(4-W) Rob Honeywell Won 21-9

The men made an early first round exit in the County Top Club losing 2-3 at Marldon. Fielding an experimental side, wins by Harry Goodwin in the 4-Wood singles (21-9) & the fours of Mark Hopkins, Ian Baker, Rob Honeywell & Craig Down (26-10) could not overcome defeats by Mike Harris (17-21) in the 2-Wood singles & Jeff Tolchard, John Melmore & Dom Wittwer (9-22) in the triples. With the result hinging on the outcome of the pairs, Dave Walker & Dave Evans after a good start could not quite overturn a 4 shot deficit going in to the last end.

Kings men began the defence of their National Top Club title, which they won last September, and could not have asked for a tougher test when they were drawn away at the home of arch rivals Shaldon. The match started unpromisingly when Louis Ridout agonisingly lost by 1 shot on the last end of his 2-Wood singles encounter with Ryan Whitlock. Elsewhere, the Fours of Rob Honeywell, Craig Down, Matt Bass & Harry Goodwin were always in control of their match against Michael Coombes rink eventually running out comfortable 26-13 winners. The pairs match involving Dave Evans & Jamie Chestney was a close affair throughout which was finally decided when Jamie drew the shot on the final end to secure a 21-19 victory. Heroes of the night however had to be the triple of Phil Hackett, Mike Woodbridge & Adrian O'Neill who overturned a 6-14 scoreline to come through 17-15 thereby securing the overall victory. The match was finally conceded, 4-1 in favour of Kings, with Sam Tolchard leading Lee Hayward 19-7 in their 4-Wood singles match.

The following evening the two sides resumed hostilities at Belgrave in an MDL clash. On this occasion a determined performance from the hosts ensured revenge was fully exacted ending in a comfortable and well deserved 12-2 points victory with the rink of Rob Honeywell, Alan Horwell, Sean Howard & Alan Hirst being the only winning rink.
With the season only 2 games old, the 'A' team find themselves disappointingly winless.

Kings men began the defence of their National Double Fours title when they entertained neighbours Torquay on Wednesday evening. Although forced to make two changes from the side that lifted the trophy last September, with Craig Down & Rob Honeywell replacing the unavailable Adrian O'Neill and the Australia-based Joe Melmore, the side carried on where they left off last season winning 44-26. Sam Tolchard's rink were quick out of the blocks and were never in trouble eventually winning 28-8. On the adjoining rink however, Jamie Chestney's rink started slowly and were finding the going tough before losing 16-18.

The first National Club competition of the season saw a Mens 'B' team take to the green for the first time for many years.
In the Double Fours against a Shaldon 'B' side comprising MDL 'A' team players, the side put in a strong performance
winning 41-32 overall. Much was owed to the rink of Mike Harris, Dave Rogers, Graham Walton & Griff Sanders who
recorded a 22-8 win against Chris Parker whilst the rink of John Williamson, Doug Hawkins, John Boyt & Dom Wittwer
played a more defensive role in their 5 shot defeat against the rink of Simon Grice.
However, in the Top Club later in the week, they did not enjoy the same success going down 1-4 at the hands of
Newton Abbot with the only success provided by Bill Turner & Griff Sanders in the Pairs.
The Mens 'A' team made a disappointing start to their MDL campaign when losing 4-10 points in their opening fixture
away at Newton Abbot.
It was a good week for the Over 55's with both teams recording maximum points victories with the 'V' Division side
beating Marldon 47-20 and the 'Y' Division side overcoming Teignmouth Den 51-16
